IMPROVED TERRACE SUPPORT This invention relates to a terrace support suitable for holding one or more floor parts at a distance from an underlying surface, comprising a support plate suitable for supporting one or more floor parts. The floor parts concerned can be wooden or plastic floor parts, but are preferably ceramic or concrete floor parts, or floor parts made of natural stone. The floor parts are in particular terrace tiles or decking. The floor parts are preferably placed directly on the support plate of the terrace support, but a so-called support profile can also be placed on the support plate with the aid of an intermediate piece. Patio supports are generally known, they are often part of a so-called support system for floors or terraces. Such support systems are often used when one wishes, for example, to convert a flat roof into a fully-fledged outdoor space or to lay a terrace on an uneven surface or even surface of, for example, balcony terraces of apartments, hotels or restaurants.
The terrace supports make it possible to place the floor parts (tile elements) at a suitable distance from each other and at a distance from an underlying surface. This eliminates the need for screed and tile adhesive, rainwater can be drained through the open joints and pipes can easily be laid in the free space under the floor surface. In order to be able to maintain the same joint width everywhere, the top surface of the tile support is provided with a number of tile holders extending transversely of the support plate. The floor parts must be placed adjacent to the tile holders. Certain floor parts, in particular floor parts made of natural stone and to a lesser extent ceramic floor parts, are not equally thick everywhere. In order to compensate for irregularities in the surface of floor parts and to correct the height differences thus created between floor parts placed next to each other, it is known to place rubber fillers under the floor parts or to spray them on the supports at the bottom of the tile where necessary. However, this way of working is cumbersome.
An additional disadvantage of the existing support systems is that during storms or strong gusts of wind, one or more floor parts can blow up and get damaged.
The European patent publication EP 1 010 833 describes a method for placing raised floor parts and a device (support) applicable in this method. The support consists of a support plate that is connected to a support tube in which a spindle nut and an associated spindle are attached. The support plate is also provided with a central access opening along which the spindle can be operated. Elastic adhesive strips or an adhesive are applied in the corners of the backing plate.
According to EP 1 010 833 it is important that the corner of a floor part is placed only% on the support plate, so that the central access opening in the support plate remains free.
The object of this invention is to provide a solution for the above-described problems, so that (dimensional) deviations in the height (thickness) between different floor parts, in particular floor parts made of natural stone or ceramic material, can be compensated and also prevented that after installation there are floor parts can still blow up.
The object of the invention is achieved by providing a patio support suitable for keeping one or more floor parts at a distance from an underlying surface, comprising a support plate suitable for supporting one or more floor parts, the support plate being provided with a support plate. leveling body for the one or more floor parts, wherein the leveling body is formed from a bituminous material, the leveling body comprises a removable protective layer and the leveling body has a thickness of between 1 mm. and
10 mm.
Due to its composition, the leveling body will ensure that unevenness in the floor parts or thickness differences between adjacent floor parts are compensated so that the floor parts lie perfectly flat.
The compensation will take place because the floor parts are partly pressed into the (soft) bituminous material.
The bituminous material preferably comprises unmodified bitumen.
The leveling body is preferably provided centrally on the support plate.
Due to the low softening point, preferably located between 45 ° and 100 °, of the bituminous material, the influence of solar heat and weight will also cause adhesion to the objects placed thereon, preferably floor elements or a bearing profile.
On the one hand, this adhesion will ensure that the floor parts will no longer move when, for example, they are walked over.
Due to the adhesive power of the leveling body, the floor parts (or bearing profile) lying on it will lie nicely and form - when such terrace supports are used in the formation of a terrace - the various terrace supports and the floor parts placed on top of it, as it were, a composite structure that forms one will move completely.
On the other hand, this will prevent separate floor parts from blowing up, for example during storms.
In contrast to the existing systems, the structure will now move as a whole and thus be more resistant to extreme weather conditions.
Preferably, the leveling body has a core that is coated with the bituminous material.
The core is preferably formed from glass fabric.
The leveling body of the terrace support according to the invention comprises a removable protective layer.
The protective layer must be removed before the floor boards are installed.
The protective layer is preferably a polyethylene film.
The leveling body of the terrace support according to the invention has a thickness of between 1 mm. and 10 mm. In particular, the leveling body has a thickness of between 2 and 8 mm. and more in particular a thickness between 4 mm. and 8 mm.
According to a special embodiment of the terrace support according to the invention, the terrace support is made of plastic, preferably PP. Other suitable plastics, such as, for example, polycarbonate are of course also suitable. The terrace support is preferably manufactured by injection molding or extrusion.
In a more particular embodiment of the terrace support according to the invention, it comprises a base for placing on an underlying surface. The patio support according to the invention is preferably adjustable in height.
In order to further clarify the features of this invention and to indicate additional advantages and particularities thereof, a more detailed description of the patio support according to the invention now follows. It is to be understood that nothing in the following description can be interpreted as limiting the protection claimed in the claims.
In this description reference is made by reference numbers to the accompanying drawings, in which: figure 1: a front view of a terrace support according to the invention which keeps two floor parts at a distance from an underlying surface; figure 2: is a perspective representation of a terrace support according to the invention which keeps a wooden support profile at a distance from an underlying surface; figure 3: shows a support body comprising a support plate on which a leveling body is centrally provided.
The terrace support (1) according to this invention and as shown in the attached figures 1 and 2, is suitable for keeping one or more floor parts (2) at a distance from an underlying surface. The terrace support (1) is made up of a number of parts: - a support (3) - or carrier plate suitable for supporting one or more floor parts (2); - a base (5) for placing on an underlying surface, and - a coupling piece (6) that will form the connection between the base (5) and the support plate (3).
The coupling piece (6) has an annular design and is rotatably provided in the base (5). Because the coupling piece (6) is provided on its outer circumference with a screw thread that engages with a screw thread present on the inside of the base (5), the height of the terrace support (1) is adjustable. The height of the terrace support (1) can be adjusted by turning the coupling piece (6) relative to the base (5), possibly with the aid of a suitable tool. Such a height-adjustable terrace support (1) has the advantage that it can also be placed on a surface that is not evenly flat everywhere. In order to ensure proper placement of the terrace support (1), the underside of the base (5), in a preferred embodiment, can be provided with a damping layer of 2 to 25 mm. thick, which is for instance manufactured from PE, foamed PE, PVC, foamed PVC or a mixture of one or more of the foregoing materials.
In accordance with the present invention, there is placed on the support plate (3) a leveling body (4) formed of a bituminous material, in particular the leveling body having a core of glass fabric coated with a bituminous material, preferably unmodified bitumen. Due to its composition, the bituminous material will adhere well to the material from which the terrace support, and in particular the support plate (3) is manufactured. The terrace support (1), as well as the support plate (3), is made of plastic as standard, in particular polypropylene. The support plate (3) is furthermore provided with a raised edge that serves as a holder (8) for the floor parts (2), or, where appropriate, as a holder (8) for a support profile (7). The leveling body preferably has a circular cross-section. , with a diameter between 5 cm. and 15 cm. Of course, other embodiments, such as quadrangular, rectangular, sheet-shaped, etc. are also possible. The thickness of the leveling body (4) is between 1 mm. and 10 mm.
The leveling body (4) is also provided with a removable protective layer or protective film of polyethylene, which must be removed before an object will be placed on the leveling body (4).
On the patio support (1), the floor parts (2), as shown in figure 1, can be placed directly on the leveling body (4). As shown in figure 1, the floor parts (2) can be tile elements which are made of plastic, natural stone, ceramic material, rubber and the like. However, the floor parts can also be plank-shaped elements, which are, for example, manufactured from: solid wood, a wood-based material, or plastic. The floor parts can also be grid-shaped elements made of metal, plastic, etc.
Floor parts (2) can, however, also, as shown in figure 2, not be placed directly on the leveling body (4), but on a support profile (7) which is suitable for supporting one or more floor parts. In this case, the support profile (7) is placed on the leveling body (4). Such a support profile can be manufactured from aluminum, solid wood, a wood-based material, or plastic.
The presence of a leveling body (4) according to the invention makes it possible, if necessary, when, for example, two adjacent floor parts (2) are not perfectly flat due to a difference in thickness or due to irregularities in the surface, the one floor part slightly more in the leveling body (4)
so that the height difference is compensated and the floor parts are perfectly flat.
An additional effect of the described leveling body (4) is that after installation, the floor parts (2) or, as the case may be, the bearing profiles (7) will bond with the leveling body due to solar heat and load.
This is because the (bituminous) material from which the leveling body (4) is made has a low softening point.
This will also ensure that the floor parts (2) (support profiles), once placed, will be more difficult to move or tilt when walked on.
With the existing systems, tiles sometimes tilted when people walked on them, resulting in an unpleasant tapping noise.
As a result of the adhesion, the floor parts will no longer be blown up in heavy storms or gusts of wind.
Figure 3 shows a support body consisting of a support plate (3) and a leveling body (4) as previously described.
Such a support body (9) is part of the terrace support (1) according to the invention.
However, such a support body (9) can also be used to position other objects or structures nicely close to each other and / or whereby an adhesion is also realized between the leveling body (4) and the object or structure placed thereon.
Another option is to make the support plate L-shaped and to provide its vertical part with the leveling body (4). Such a support body then makes it possible in a floor system to place a floor part vertically against the side edge of a horizontally placed floor part, for instance to form a step.
